In 1981, two companies decided to merge their productions. The Norwegian Norema and the Portuguese Mendes Godinho blended in "Norema Portuguesa" to take the best from the typical Norwegian design technology, and combine it with Portuguese efficiency at a reasonable cost.
From that time until the early nineties, the brand has earned a respectable position in the furnishing sector.
In 1995, "Norema Portuguesa" passed under the leadership of the Norwegian partners who buy the full ownership of the company, concentrating the production in their flagship store in Norway.
In 2008, the company changed its name into TemaHome and it begins to outline its final corporate identity, making itself well-known on the market as a brand that manufactures contemporary furniture collections and decorative accessories, mixing modern lines and excellent design.
The attention to detail that TemaHome devotes to each one of its products gives rise to timeless pieces, elements that find their place in an infinite variety of contexts.
Over the years, the management of the company has become international; many are the figures behind the brand management and this has allowed to increase the potential of its products, expanding them worldwide.
Today, the brand's headquarters are in Tomar, Portugal, a city known for the many traces of the Templars era.
The modern factory creates the necessary components to assemble furniture, so that the brand is able to have control over the quality of the materials used for its wooden objects.
The philosophy that guides the entire production by TemaHome is entirely based on the future: what they do today, is already old and they are ready to design something more innovative, never seen before.
Temahome's identity is deeply rooted in its traditions married to the love of industrial and artisanal design. A brand recognized worldwide, famous for its contemporary style and the attention to environmental sustainability.
The real strength of the Portuguese company is undoubtedly its close-knit team of collaborators and designers: young, passionate and talented, that do their job in line with the motto of TemaHome: "Live your dreams." A designer team that is always in motion, creative professionals running around with a pen and a notebook in their pocket even in their spare time, because you never know when you will have an inspiration.
A business focused on the design of contemporary, simple and comfortable furnishings that produces objects that manage to enter our everyday life, adding a touch of style. The simplicity of the furnishings conceived by the brilliant minds of this company's designers is undoubtedly the key for a versatile style, clean and simple, perfect to be placed in every corner of the house.
Functionality and a formal and minimal aesthetic characterize each piece of furniture by TemaHome: tables, coffee tables, bedside tables, dressers and bookcases help to create refined, natural and airy spaces. Even the materials used to build them evoke the genuine purity that comes from the union of elements such as glass, metal and wood. Another important plus among the others of this Portuguese brand is the attention to quality and moderate prices.
Many are the names of the influential designer who contribute with their creativity to the success of TemaHome.
From an early age, he was attracted by design. He graduated in industrial design at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha. Since 2012 he became a member of the TemaHome team, creating projects of fundamental importance for the company. According to Nuno Rosa, the usefulness of a design product should be the fulcrum and the point of arrival of each design process. All objects that come out of his mind must be above all very practical. The designer is not oriented towards a particular design style, but draws its inspiration from the objects he encounters in daily life.
Marco Sousa Santos
Born in 1962, this Portuguese designer was the co-founder of Proto Design, a project designed to give visibility to many new generation designers of that time (until 2002). Between 1998 and 2001, he was involved in the founding of Experimenta Design, Lisbon's biennial design, as art director. Since 2002, he opened a studio that bears his name and works as a consultant to various design projects such as Magis, Ranault Paris, Moroso, Vista Alegre, Atlantis and especially TemaHome. He recently started a new project: he founded the furniture brand "Branca Lisboa". A designer with exceptional skills, whose work has been exhibited in important places such as the Triennale of Milan, the Victoria & Albert Museum of London and the Paris Furniture Fair.
He is probably the best-known Portuguese designer at an international level, with a deliberately ironic and original wit that emerges in all his projects. He has worked for companies such as Droog, Authentics, Atlantis, ModaLisboa and many others.
Fernando Brizio combines his work as a designer with the teaching career at the Institute of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha. He was also visiting professor at the Ecal of Lausanne and also at the University of Design and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. For TemaHome he designed "Maniglia", a stool with a distinct personality.
