The Sgabillo stool? Not only something to sit on but a small support for a thousand different uses. Coming from the genius of Max Bill, a Swiss artist from the last century, the Sgabillo stool is now produced and marketed by the Zanotta brand but in the past it was displayed in the major contemporary art museums of the world as the perfect symbol for the sophisticated design of the 1950s. Austere, essential and rigorous, but not for this anonymous, this small object in birch plywood is not just a stool, but lends itself to many uses: a coffee table for the living room or for the bedroom, a place to rest a warm cup of tea next to your favourite armchair, a place for your favourite magazines. Thanks to its small size, Zanotta’s Sgabillo stool can, in fact, be placed in the narrowest places while its sleek but elegant lines make it a prestigious design object, versatile not only in use, but also when it comes to matching. Birch wood is very well suited to a contrast with the rich velvet pattern of a vintage sofa but also to liven up a modern décor featuring chromed elements and glittering colours. The embossed painting gives the surface of the Sgabillo stool an irresistible texture, beautiful to see and pleasant to touch, but the most important thing to note is that the paint is scratch-resistant, protecting the furniture from everyday use. This is therefore not only a prestigious design object that can give lustre to your favourite room but also and more importantly a companion for life to use, experience and love day after day: an active participant in your house and in your daily life. Sgabillo is one of the most representative objects of the 1950s and it is displayed in the most important museums in Europe.
