Firebird 2.0 Lighter by Alessi

Alessi's Firebird 2.0 lighter with rechargeable battery was designed and created by Guido Venturini. The new Firebird is the re-edition, revised and corrected, of one of the icons of Alessi's "playful" period. Started in 1993 with the collection of mainly plastic objects "Family Follows Fiction", the so-called "playful language" in design, of which we claim the progeny and which has subsequently inspired many designers and manufacturers, was born in a workshop of the Centro Studi Alessi which brought together some promising young designers many of whom were destined to enter the catalogue for the first time: Giovannoni, Venturini, Caramia and Ruiz, who were later joined (under the supervision of Laura Polinoro and with the preparatory theoretical collaboration of intellectuals such as Paolo Fabbri, Franco La Cecla, Luisa Leonini, Marco Migliari, Mariella Pandolfi, Lucetta Scaraffia and Luca Vercelloni) by the equally young Bacelli, Bozzoli, Cagianelli, Cisotti, Di Rosa, Giacon, Giandelli, Kim, Mirri, Pirovano, Ruiz, Sansoni and Zanzi. One of the collection's iconic products was the Firebird cigarette lighter, whose phallic reference made it an icon of 'Family Follows Fiction'. This small object, which initially had only witty ambitions, soon became an unconventional and irreverent "iconoclastic" icon, to the point of being misunderstood and condemned, in times long past, even on the pulpit of the Sunday mass of the parish priest of Omegna.
