George J. Sowden
George J. Sowden is a designer with extensive experience in various sectors of industrial design: from the enhancement of electronic products for the mass market to the handcrafted products produced in limited numbers, including ceramics and glass, fabrics and carpets. He made his first work experience in Italy with Ettore Sottsass. He collaborated with Olivetti for over twenty years and was one of the founders of Memphis. He has been a consultant for Olivetti, Alessi, Bodum, Fratelli Guzzini, Lorenz, Rancilio, Steelcase, Swatch, Segis, Post Design, Memphis, Telecom Italia and others. In 1981 he founded Sowden Design, where he carries out his activities as an industrial designer and where, with the collaborators of the studio, he continues his experimental and research work. Sowden Design products have appeared in many specialized books, the most recent 'Designing the 21st Century' published by Taschen. In 1990 his work of experimentation and research was the protagonist of an exhibition organized by the Musées des Arts Décoratifs of Bordeaux and Marseille. Sowden Design has offices in Milan and San Francisco.
