In the kitchen, at a trendy bar, next to the bed to hold the lamp or next to the couch to keep remotes and coffee cups: the Charles Ghost stool is both an excellent chair and a counter top, but it is above all it’s a piece of furniture that combines luxury and simplicity at its finest. Convenient and powerful, graceful and durable, it even has a slightly retro and contemporary appeal, making for an accessory that enhances any room with its discreet yet at the same time eye-catching presence. Offering impeccable see-through features, it shows traits of the most classic and famous chairs of the nineteenth century. From these elements derives its peculiar name, Charles Ghost, an ode to ironic royalty. Its creator, designer and interior architect Philippe Starck, found inspiration in dramatic baroque style, simplifying its features without distorting them, all the while offering up a charismatic modern version made entirely of polycarbonate. Available in many different colours and sizes, it is offered here in the mid-size version. Produced by renowned Italian brand Kartell, the Charles Ghost stool has a round seat, four long legs with a slightly curved profile with circular footrest. The piece has an overall refined image, while also enhancing user comfort. From business meetings to family dinner, this stool has many possible uses, while the plastic used to make it means it can be used outdoors or as a helpful and pleasant furnishing complement with terraces and patios when entertaining guests. Lightweight and easy to move, also it helps save space: when not in use, these stools can actually be easily stacked on top of the other (up to 7 units) and used when the time calls for more seats. The product is sold in a set of 2 stools.

Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck

"Subversive, ethical, ecological, political, humorous... this is how I see my duty as a designer", says Philippe Starck. The thousands of projects - complete or forthcoming - his global fame and tireless protean inventiveness should never distract from Philippe Starck's fundamental vision: Creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. Starck vehemently believes this poetic and political duty, rebellious and benevolent, pragmatic and subversive, should be shared by everyone and he sums it up with the humour that has set him apart from the very beginning: "No one has to be a genius, but everyone has to participate." His precocious awareness of ecological implications, his enthusiasm for imagining new lifestyles, his determination to change the world, his love of ideas, his concern with defending the intelligence of usefulness – and the usefulness of intelligence – has taken him from iconic creation to iconic creation... From everyday products, furniture and lemon squeezers, to revolutionary mega yachts, hotels that stimulate the senses, phantasmagorical venues and individual wind turbines, he never stops pushing the limits and criteria of contemporary design. His dreams are solutions, solutions so vital that he was the first French man to be invited to the TED conferences (Technology, Entertainment & Design) alongside renowned participants including Bill Clinton and Richard Branson. Inventor, creator, architect, designer, artistic director, Philippe Starck is certainly all of the above, but more than anything else he is an honest man directly descended from the Renaissance artists.
