Aledin Tec table lamp by Kartell

Born in Lenno Tremezzina (Como), in 1945, he graduated in mechanical engineering from the Milan Polytechnic. In 1987 and 1989 he designed two historic chairs for Alias: lightlight and softlight. The former is on show in the permanent collection in the MoMA in New York. The first Alias chairs in the frame range date from 1994. These were followed in 2003 by frametable, in 2007 by the out collection teak, in 2009 by the biplane table and in 2011 hydrochiar. He lives and works in Milan. Francesco Meda was born in Milan in 1984. Graduated in 2006 from Milan’s Istituto Europeo of Design in Industrial Design. Following the degree the designer gained experience in London working at Sebastian Bergne’s studio and later at Ross Lovegrove’s. Since his return to Milan in 2008 he has been collaborating with his father Alberto Meda on projects for clients such as Alias, Vitra, Alessi, Kartell and Marsotto. Concurrently he has been pursuing his own personal Art and Design projects with other companies such as I Vassalletti Limited Editions and Hong Kong’s Schoeni Art Gallery, Henraux, Luce di Carrara, Rossana Orlandi Gallery. His “Orme Cinesi” collection, which has been extensively published, was exhibited in Hong Kong at the Lane Crawford store, and was presented by Schoeni Art Gallery during the 2012/2013 Hong Kong ART fair. In 2013 he co-designed “Flap”, an acoustic panel produced by Caimi Brevetti. In the same year he began his own production with objects such as LED lamps, marble stools, tables, benches and 3D printed jewelry. Bridge lamps and the 3D jewelry series are part of the Triennale Design Museum collection.

Founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli, Kartell is now an international symbol for the desire to draw new aesthetic boundaries for Made in Italy. Thanks to continuous research and experimentation, the brand has shown the world that plastic can have a thousand faces, introducing the opaque surface, transparency, and softness. The creativity of the most famous contemporary designers can thus give life to a collection of accessible and versatile furniture items, accessories and lamps.
