Milan’s Design Week is about to start and all eyes of the design world will be trained firmly on Italy.
Its 58th Edition pays tribute to Leonardo Da Vinci and will include Euroluce, the International Lighting Exhibition and Workplace 3.0, a think tank for understanding upcoming necessary changes to workspaces.
The 2019 Salone del Mobile opens its doors at the Rho Fiera Milano venues on Tuesday, April 9th through Sunday, April 14th.
During the first part of the week, from April 9th to 12th, the tickets are reserved for industry professionals and open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, always from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm.
Remember that, in any case, you need to book tickets: online registration also allows you to skip the queues.
For more information or to access discounted prices for groups or students, head to the Salone's website.
The SaloneSatellite is dedicated to young international designers who are under 35.
This year’s theme is Food as a Design Object: with 550 designers and Neo-laureates from international design institutions, the Salone Satellite will take place in pavilions 22-24.
The Fuorisalone events include all that happens outside of the Fair: which means parties and free drinks, but above all art, food, technology-related events in the city’s design districts.
This year, the district celebrates its 10 year anniversary at Fuorisalone and the events will be kicking off on Monday, April 8th, under the theme Design Your Life, conceived as a hymn to sustainability.
Ten ambassadors will then pay tribute to the leading theme, showing and explaining how to rethink future, emotions, memories and our own value.
The Italian designer Cristina Celestino will host one of Brera’s unmissable events, the project Planetario, with a retro-futuristic concept highlighting a new collection of carpets created by the designer and realized by Besana Carpet Lab.
Milan’s 5Vie are a veritable widespread design museum: this year, it is dedicated to the resources of the territory, shining the spotlight on submerged energies and cultures.
One of the district's main events? Seletti's famous Design Pride, a colorful parade of wagons, music, dance, and performance that takes place on April 10th from Piazza Castello to Piazza Affari, ending under the iconic L.O.V.E. sculpture by Maurizio Cattelan.
Developed within the confines of Via Tortona, Via Savona, and Via Bergognone, the 2019 Tortona Design District will be focused on Design Awareness and tomorrow's design.
The events will develop two main themes: sustainability, with Norwegian Presence 2019 and Belgium is Design, and robotics, with Sony, Samsung and Hyundai.
An environmental design installation by artist Alex Chinneck for IQOS WORLD will be held at Opificio 31: a multidimensional project that will defy your perception of space.
BASE Milano will host the exhibition called A home is a home is a home, by London’sCentral Saint Martins school and the Danish Design School of Kolding, dedicated to all those objects that make you feel at home.
In Isola the theme will be Unlimited Design!, with desing meant to meet with other disciplines and realms, including technology.
Such as augmented reality.
The fifth edition of the Milan Design Market, the space for emerging Italian and international designers organized by the Blank creative agency, will be held very close to the Bosco Verticale skyscraper. Under the artistic direction of Elif Resitoglu, the market-exhibition will develop the theme Find The Lost City, with a variety of objects being sold at the temporary concept store. Among them, the new Neubau brand glasses, produced in celebration of the Bauhaus centenary.
