June is the month of festivals. Rock, Jazz, Pop music festivals: warm season has finally arrived. Winter has closed all musicians inside clubs and bars, some of them on the stage, others within the audience. Some concerts have been organized in music halls, but they were expensive monothematic nights, some kind of private serenades for the most loyal fans.
June opens the door to a completely different tradition: music, open air and sharing. Peace & love: June embodies the hippie heritage of Hendrix, Joplin and Zappa. Pale and emaciated musicians go outside in the open air, and concerts become festivals. Here are the three best rock, jazz and pop music festivals of the upcoming weeks (but be careful, tickets sold out fast!).

Founded in 1971 by two students, Roskilde Festival is currently organized by a non-profit foundation that donates all proceeds to help music and culture. The good face of Rock. Nowadays the festival attracts more than 150,000 Rock music lovers and it’s one of the most important festival in Europe. To be clear, here are some of the names from this year’s line-up: Tame Impala, Neil Young+Promise of the Real and…the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Let’s rock.

Once you have left the country of casinos, you can go all in with a trip to Canada, at the Montreal Festival and - this is a (Jazz) note of national pride - one to Italy, in the beautiful squares of Perugia for Umbria Jazz Festival, for a cocktail of style including Marcus Miller, Buddy Guy and…Mika. Yes, no mistake here, also Mika.
You do enjoy Rock music, but the one you used to listen as a teenager is more than enough for you. You have a few Jazz albums at your place, but you feel like your father to put a vinyl in the record player. Easy listening, easy life: did you smile when you read the name Mika? Do you feel like listening to a catchy, well-written, ironic and moving song? Something that will stay in your head for the rest of the day? Glastonsbury Festival is the one for you (but actually for everybody).
More than 15 stages, five days of art in the form of musicians, comedians and circus performers. The most important names in the line-up of Glastonbury speak for themselves: Muse, Adele, Coldplay. And then Beck, New Order, ZZ Top. And so on. Would you like to be anywhere else?
Are all festivals around the end of June? Yes, it’s true, but you need to buy the tickets in advance. Many of them sold out really fast. And if you just can’t wait any longer from June 9 to 12 there is the Isle of Wight Festival. An isle of counterculture, since 1968. A real isle. Re-born in 2012, this year the Isle of Wight festival proposes The Who (that in 1970 recorded here their live album), the Queen with Adam Lambert and the Stereophonics.Come on, it’s time to dance!
