Friendship Day is tomorrow, which is a celebration proclaimed by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries and cultures and individuals. Many people say that “friends are the family you choose”, and they are certainly right.
Childhood friends, highschool friends, college friends, colleagues-friends, friends of friends, friends with benefits, best friends, family friends… Friendship is such an important and strong bond in everyone’s life that we have to celebrate it.
You sneakily open Facebook after a long and boring day at work, and the inbox icon is flashing. You click on it and find a group chat called “Bocconi: the reunion”. Suddenly a smile illuminates your face:

. Sara has invited all of you for dinner: exactly like she used to do when you were in college. “I wonder how is Brambilla now, that nerd obsessed with his career…I think he is working for some consultancy…“.
A dinner at home is the perfect occasion to update our friends about our life, to chat with them and to hang out with people we haven’t met in a while. A buffet dinner is perfect to make everyone talk to each other. One table covered with any kind of delicious food. Candles and flowers to make the atmosphere more cheerful and intimate. Sofas, chairs and ottomans where to sit down, relax, chat and remember.
Some good wine certainly helps, in memory of the old good times, for sure, but also to get over the embarassed conversation with that Mario to whom - now like in the past, right before an exam - you have no idea what to say. And in conclusion, a selfie all together is due, because a moment like that must be shared with everyone.
Food, chit-chat, sun, music, laughter, gossip, board games and lots of fun: for those who are lucky enough to have a private garden, the best thing to do during the warm season is certainly a barbecue with friends.
Those barbecues when you grill the first rib at noon and the last ones when the sun goes down, and when the keen friend that volunteered to take care of the fire ends the day exhausted and with his belly empty. Beach chairs to lie down in the sun; hammocks to hang between two trees to relax or take a nap; tables for the food, set up with plates, glasses (plastic ones!) and napkins; chairs, ottomans and sofas to sit down comfortably; large towels to relax on the grass.
The garden must be set up at best in order to welcome all your friends and their friends who joined at the last second. If the barbecue goes on until late at night, lanterns become fundamental, to illuminate and decorate the garden, but also to repel mosquitos.
The weekend is coming, the sun is shining in the sky, the heat is suffocating in the city and your tan looks ridiculous compared to that of your colleague working next to you.
What can you do about it? A trip to the seaside with your friends, of course! It is very easy to arrange: you leave early in the morning (oh no, early wake-up even on Saturday!), a backpack filled with everything you need and let’s go! What to take with you? A beach towel, a parasol for the hottest hours, sun cream to avoid coming back to the office on Monday looking like a lobster.
And above all you will need a cooler to enjoy a nice pic-nic on the beach: water, drinks, fruit and anything else you like. To spend the day on the beach you also need playing cards, a ball, beach rackets and some music, of course.
