The 5 best restaurants with a view in Italy

Every year you just can’t wait for Summer to come to rediscover outdoor life, but Winter sea has is own charme, no dobut.

If, for you as for me, beach, breeze and spaghetti with clams rhyme, you're lucky: I’ve selected the best 5 places in Italy where you can enjoy all three things at once.

1. GROTTA PALAZZESE, RESTAURANT POLIGNANO A MARE (BARI)

Polignano a Mare, in Apulia, is famous for a number of reasons, including literary events, diving competitions and the world-renowned singer Domenico Modugno.

The caves are one of these reasons, too. They give home to one of the most beautiful restaurants in Italy: the Grotta Palazzese. In 1730, this cave was a ballroom commissioned by the Duke Leto of Naples and a meeting place for the aristocrats until the French Revolution.

Today, in this cave, you can dine cuddled by candles and background music. The restaurant cave is open from Easter to October: keep it in mind when booking.

2. AL TRABUCCO DA MIMÌ RESTAURANT IN PESCHICI (FOGGIA)

Do you remember the fantastic buildings in Waterworld? I am almost certain that the scenographers were inspired by the trabucchi, the wooden buildings used by fishermen in the Adriatic Sea.

These pictoresque bridges suspended on the sea were used to cast the net and today one of them is turned into a beautiful restaurant surrounded by the sea.

It was built in the twenties and is one of the best preserved trabucchi of the entire coast, so much so that it is still used for mullet and bluefish fishing with the traditional method.

Built with salvaged beams, nets and old fishing tackles, Al Trabucco da Mimì has been family-run for five generations and will make you taste the sea from another perspective.

3. DA GIOVANNI, ABBEY OF SAN FRUTTUOSO (GENOA)

I could mention at least fifty restaurants that are located in front of a church, but of all them, Da Giovanni is hands off the most beautiful one.

San Fruttuoso beach, where you can find the homonymous abbey, is one of Italy’s most beautiful and evocative places and can only be reached by boat from Camogli or using a hiking trail.

At Giovanni’s you will find only traditional Ligurian dishes handed down for generations, including the famous Santa Margherita's scampi: add this location to your list.

4. THE PERGOLA RESTAURANT IN POSITANO (NAPLES)

The Amalfi coast, a place where you can eat under the stars and enjoy the view of the gulf, the hanging gardens and villages perched on the most evocative sea on the planet.

If I have to choose a restaurant in Positano, I would say that La Pergola has a thousand and one reasons to be mentioned. For example, Franco Zeffirelli used to live there and then the plac went on to become a splendid hotel de charme with only 16 rooms, including Vietri ceramics and Baroque paintings. Look out from the pergola to feel like you’re living inside a postcard.

5. BONUS: LIDO 84 RESTAURANT, GARDONE RIVIERA (BRESCIA)

Trained with masters of the level of Gualtiero Marchesi, Raymond Blanc, Jean-Louis Nomicos and Alain Ducasse, Riccardo Camanini decided to open his own restaurant ‘here, where amid camphores and olive trees, oleanders and bougainvilleas, begins the wonderful Riviera dei Limoni’.

The Lido 84 restaurant has already been awarded a Michelin star and the view on Lake Garda surrounded by magnificent gardens and mountains, is as unique as the dishes.
