1. Chalet in the mountains

The perfect mountain lodge when hiking is a professionally designed fir wood chalet.

On the Swiss side of the Jura Mountains, the Frundgallina architecture studio renovated a small farmhouse dating back to the 1960s. By maintaining its volume but completely reorganizing its interiors, the studio divided the space into four zones – three of which are on two levels – and opened two windows and an access door on each side.

Thus the chalet gives the impression of being composed of four communicating small houses, each with an incredible view on the surrounding landscape.

2. Wooden house in Finland

Twenty minutes by ferry from Kauppatori, Helsinki's main square, there are the island of Vallisaari and Nolla, a zero-impact small house.

Designed by Finnish designer Robin Falck, this wooden house allows you to enjoy the almost untouched nature of the place – the last inhabitants left the island in 1996 – and respect it at the same time.

Nolla fully embraces the Nordic slow living both in the practical side, working only with renewable energy and generating few or zero emissions, as well as in the philosophical one.

The light wood, the simple and linear structure and the minimal but nice furniture increase the feeling of having finally reached a welcoming shelter, where not only the body will rest.

However, this is not the first frugal project by Robin Falck. Already in 2010 he had built a wooden holiday home, starting from scratch and using mainly recycled or locally available materials. He did it in two weeks, with an aesthetically flawless result.

He chose to call it Nido, not by chance.

3. Holiday home for families in the Netherlands

Even in the Netherlands there is a small design haven where you can escape when life in the city gets too hectic. Family-friendly and surrounded by the water of the Vinkeveen lakes, this holiday home fits and hides in the vegetation against which, at the same time, it stands out for its well-defined shape, enhanced by the black wooden panel covering.

Ecofriendly, compact and incredibly elegant, the Tiny Home Holiday measures just 55 square meters, but thanks to the careful design of the studio i29 and Chris Collaris it can comfortably accommodate four people – and their love for nature.

The house consists of four volumes of different proportions, communicating with each other and optimized to include a living room, a dining area, three bedrooms and three bathrooms, two of which are guest bathrooms. The decor is tailor-made, as every lighting solution.

Every detail is designed so that from the inside of the house you can always naturally go to the outside.
