Cleto Munari
Schemes-free design
Cleto Munari Design Associati is a company founded in 1972. Its founder is a creative genius who wants to express his ideas through innovative and sophisticated design. All his design projects arise from a stylistic research that constitutes a world of its own, and is not found in other creations on the market. The objects created by Cleto Munari, therefore, are not affected by established schemes. The shapes come to life after the needed corrections and fixing, first on paper, then concretely through the use of materials created for this purpose. The expression of this free design's interpretation is also confirmed by the involvement in the project of internationally renowned designers. A mixture of ideas, cultures and visions that together made the Cleto Munari brand famous.

1972…The beginning
Cleto Munari founded the company at the beginning of the ‘70s. The economic boom of those years made the market very receptive to the stylistic innovations in all sectors. Cleto Munari had the idea to specialize in handcrafted manufacturing of gold and silver. He involved in his project the designer and architect Carlo Scarpa. A renowned name in the field of architecture and design. His works are the result of a careful reflection. On paper, he gave life to forms that already had a visual concreteness. He followed certain passages that apparently were useless and cluttering, but in the end they had a logical sense. Cleto Munari involved him in his project for the processing of precious materials. And this is how Carlo Scarpàs Silver Cutlery was born. The main concept was the reflection on the vision and the emotions that the object inspired in an attentive observer. His cutlery is a reinterpretation of the classic daily tools in a modern way. The lines have been designed to have a taste for beauty combined with functionality. Its sophisticated design had made it a real artwork, so much so that it's exposed in the best visual art museums.

Internationally renowned designers involved in the project
Cleto Munari wanted to involve other professionals of his field in his vision of heterogeneity and stylistic mix aimed at the research of an innovative image search. The Silver Cutlery by Carlo Scarpa has been the beginning of a series of highly-artistic productions. Creativity and design that become art in the continuous mixing of cultures and visions. The " Cleto Munari Silver" collection is made with the creative contribution of Mario Bellini, Mario Botta, Paul Portoghesi, Ettore Sottsass, Roberto Sambonet and many other designers. The objects created have had a great resonance in the field of precious metals. They were exhibited in museums such as the MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and this fact made Cleto Munari Design Associates one of the main companies at an international level.

The ‘80s...Birth of the jewel
The processing of precious metals continued in the direction of objects capable of adding value to the human body through an essential but discreet detail. The design of these small artworks can reproduce on a small scale the creativity of the genius. A unique and unrepeatable piece of jewellery that speaks about passion. 250 pieces of jewellery were showed for the first time in 1985. The general impression was that these precious objects were created to express some emotions rather than intended for commercial purposes. The artists feel the need to give form to their visions. Thus, a new era begins for jewellery, which until then had followed strict stylistic canons. In the same decade he also started to create watches. A common object that subverted the style how it was until that point. Cleto Munari continued to confirm his popularity as a designer who wants to affirm himself for being against the trends and against the schemes. As it had been for jewellery, also the watches by Cleto Munari did not go unnoticed. Faces of various shapes with metal and leather wristbands that spoke of creative research. Over the years, the models have evolved, changing according to the contemporary inspiration. The creations changed by following the natural evolution of the human figure, of its tastes and habits.

The new millennium shines through the glass
In 2004, Cleto Munari started developing an interest towards furnishing objects, but always without neglecting what until then had contributed to his growth. Gold and silver were joined by another material with particular characteristics: the Murano glass. The ideas of Cleto Munari Design Associati plastically took shape as the hot glass in the glass factories of Murano does. The old technique of Murano glassmasters was revived to create modern furniture capable of enhancing any contemporary environment. Colors, shapes and transparencies speak of the designers and their ideas. In 2004, Cleto Munari surprises once again by creating five fountain pens dedicated to five Nobel Prize. The designers who took part in the project were Mendini, Tusquets, Siza, Toyo Ito and Cleto Munari.

2008…The turning point
When Cleto Munari's business turned thirty, the designer decided to jump into something different. The furniture line is the apex of the work of almost four decades. In this project took part not only designers and architects, but also intellectuals such as Dario Fo. The main goal was to turn the creative act into a fusion of multiple disciplines. An example of this are the limited editions that were realized. They speak of culture, knowledge and commitment of the human mind to the research of perfection in every field. The tables of Cleto Munari Home Collection are striking for the uniqueness of their forms. The collectors followed the production of this line, thrilled by the idea of having a work that was conceptually different from the ordinary. Glass, colours, shapes, writings and figures are realized with precious transparencies that make them stand out in any stylistic setting. So, it is fully demonstrated that the various human disciplines can interact with each other and create something that is truly unique. Cleto Munari has created a ground-breaking trend in style that from then on has been strengthened decade after decade
