The triumph of aesthetics without sacrificing functionality: this is the Continental AL bookcase, a design icon right in your home! The Continental AL bookcase is the work of the famous and award-winning designer Joe Colombo. The history of this bookcase is long and its success has never stopped: born in 1965, through its unusual and fascinating design it completely revolutionized the concept of classic bookcases. No longer are they, in fact, the typical rectangular cabinets made of shelves developing vertically, but rather they become wall modules with an innovative and intriguing circular shape. Inside, a series of horizontal and vertical dividers create a number of compartments to accommodate a large number of books, CDs, and other small items. Several versions were created in the following years, including the Continental AL bookcase, made entirely in a special aluminium alloy chosen for its ability to provide lightness as well as strength and durability. With a decisively distinctive visual effect, it takes on a peculiar three-dimensional image that furnishes and enriches rooms of every type and size. Elegant and sober, this wall-fixed bookcase is a must for those who love design but at the same time do not want to be deprived of useful and functional furniture. Large but not at all cumbersome, its mesh-like structure recalls a pigeonhole shelf and it can hold volumes of different sizes while decorating and keeping the room tidy at the same time. Halfway between a work of art and a piece of furniture, it looks like a contemporary and vibrant picture that will enrich the space and highlight the surrounding furnishing. Its surfaces are lined with a lacquered finish that, while protecting the bookcase from scratches and bumps, makes it particularly refined and shiny. Produced by the Italian company Industrie Carnovali, the Continental AL bookcase is available in many different colours: for those who want a versatile piece of furniture to match any type of décor, white is perfect as it will bring great light as well as a dynamic touch to your room.

Joe Colombo
Cesare "Joe" Colombo (1930-1971) studied painting and sculpture in Milan before moving on to architecture at the Polytechnic. From 1951 to 1955, Colombo worked independently as a painter and sculptor. He joined the ‘nuclear painting' movement and later became a founding member of the ‘art concrete' group. In 1958, Colombo abandoned painting to experiment with the latest production processes and newly developed plastics such as fibreglass, ABS, PVC and polyethylene. He opened a design studio in Milan where he produced architectural and design work for companies like Alessi, Boffi, Kartell, Stilnovo, Rosenthal and Zanotta.
